The «Jägersteig»

First class hiking with spectacular views!

Freiburg is the ideal base for excursions into the Black Forest! Should it get really warm in summer, then the Schluchsee invites you to take a refreshing bath, where this tour begins and ends.
The Jägersteig has been recognized as a pleasure trail as well as a premium hiking trail and is certainly one of the most beautiful routes for a Black Forest excursion

From the Aha train station, you follow a rather steep ascent to the Bildstein, from where, in good weather, you can enjoy a view over the entire Schluchsee to the Swiss Alps. Then the Jägersteig follows very picturesque small paths through the forest. When the sun is shining, the play of sun and shadow draws a pretty pattern on the moss-covered forest floor; when the weather is foggy and damp, you have the feeling of entering a legend about mythical creatures. The last part of the Jägersteig leads along the lake promenade back to the starting point, here you can take a short swim break if the weather is good.

Length: 11 km, 460 meters in altitude, duration approx. 4 hours
Difficulty level: medium – sturdy shoes required and not suitable for prams
Refreshments available several times (Schluchsee-Ort, Aha)

Getting there

With the Breisgau S-Bahn you can reach Aha station every 15 minutes in about an hour.
Aha can also be reached by car in around 1 hour – however, due to the lack of parking spaces, we recommend using public transport.
