The Kastelburg near Waldkirch was built in the 13th century by the lords of Schnabelburg, Eschenbach and Schwarzenberg and has been in ruins since a fire in 1634. Most of the outer wall has been preserved, the keep has been rebuilt – all in all, the Kastelburg with its view over the Elz Valley is a beautiful excursion destination, not just for children!

The knight’s hiking trail begins at Waldkirch train station and follows 8 knight figures that tell you about the life of knights until you arrive at the castle ruins.
