Strasbourg – the European Capital

Over the centuries and with Europe’s turbulent history, Strasbourg has repeatedly wandered back and forth between Germany and France. As a sign of European reconciliation, it is now the seat of the European Parliament and numerous other European institutions. And this eventful history has left its mark, which can be found all over the city. Typical examples of architecture can be found from every epoch, the Alsatian cuisine combines the down-to-earth, hearty German with French finesse and the local language is a strange mixture of German and French. In addition, one of the largest universities in France attracts international students from near and far.
There is a lot to marvel at and discover in every season and in every weather. Stroll through the old town, which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site as a whole. Discover the many faces of this city on a boat tour around the old city center and into the Europaviertel. Feel the lively vibrancy of the European capital while enjoying a culinary delicacy from the region on one of the numerous terraces or in the restaurants!

Getting there:

With the regional train of the Deutsche Bahn from Freiburg main station to Strasbourg train station via Offenburg, where you need to change to the train of the SWEG approx. 1h 30 min. Or by car in 1h 15 min. Via the A5 towards Karlsruhe to exit 54 Appenweier, then follow the B28 in the direction of Strasbourg.

Freiburg-Menü

– An initiative by Freiburg restaurants and the tourism board FWTM –

As a special offer for our guests, we have jointly developed a sustainable seal of quality with the following characteristics:

  • The dishes of the Freiburg menu are consistently prepared from at least 70% ingredients from the region
  • The ingredients originate from suppliers within a maximum radius of 130km from Freiburg
  • In terms of content, every restaurateur is free in his creative design and offers dishes that suit his own house and kitchen
  • All dishes that are part of the menu are marked with the Freiburg logo on the menu
  • The Freiburg menu is offered all year and changes at least 4 times a year to emphasize the regionality and seasonality
  • To enhance transparency, we are happy to inform you about the exact origin of the products
  • Regional drinks such as water, juices, beer, wine and spirits are offered to match the menu

We are very pleased to be part of this initiative and to be able to put the culinary wealth of our region in the foreground – we wish you bon appetite!
