The Rhine Falls

One of the largest waterfalls in Europe

Impressive 23 m high and 150 m wide – the Rhine Falls near Schaffhausen is one of the largest and most water-rich waterfalls in Europe. It is located west of the lower Lake Constance in Switzerland.
From different platforms you get breathtaking views of the enormous water masses.
In addition to a boat tour, Laufen Castle with its old walls and the view of the Rhine Falls is highly recommended. The castle restaurant also offers culinary delights with a spectacular view.

Getting there:

Take the ICE from Freiburg to Basel (Badischer Bahnhof). There you change to the IRE of the Swiss Federal Railroad and drive to Schaffhausen, there you change to the S-Bahn to Dachsen. Driving time approx. 1 hour 50 minutes

By car from Freiburg, follow the B31 towards Donaueschingen 70 km through the Black Forest to the A81 motorway. Take the driveway towards Singen / Landau / Konstanz and drive a further 33 km to the end. The A81 joins the B34 here, which then leads to Switzerland, where it becomes the E41. Now follow the E41 to Schaffhausen and continue on the A4 to the Dachsen exit. Driving time approx. 1h 45min
Important note: please remember the Swiss vignette when using toll roads such as the A4
